Mission of the REACH Program: To provide middle school students who don’t typically have access to a college preparatory experience with a challenging summer program that will increase their ability to enter and succeed in college.
REACH is a three-week program offered to qualified seventh graders who have been identified by their school as students who would benefit from a rigorous, hands-on learning experience at the end of their seventh-grade year. The program will engage students in work-shops, activities and field trips that will emphasize critical thinking skills, collaboration, oral and written communication, creative thinking and problem-solving, and character development. The overarching theme, “Exploration and Discovery,” will permeate the different activities on and off campus. Two workshops on robotics and communications comprise the morning program, while the afternoons will be spent exploring the campus and Colorado Springs at large through field trips such as geocaching in local parks, and visits to the Olympic training center, a local museum, the “Mars Yard” at the Space Foundation, among others.
The Schedule:
The Program will begin on Monday, June 11th and end on Thursday, June 28th, with a special graduation ceremony at 6:30 that evening.
