New Principal Announcement

April 5, 2012

Dear Pikes Peak Prep Families:

We are excited to announce that Dawn Nelson has been selected as the new principal for Pikes Peak Prep.

The Board of Directors conducted an exhaustive national search for qualified candidates and indeed we received resumes from Arizona, California, Pennsylvania, Wyoming and of course, here in Colorado.  After interviewing with the staff and parents as well as the board, we chose Dawn because we liked her experience, her energy, her attention to detail, her initiative and drive, and most importantly, her dedication to caring for students.   She served in the United States Air Force for 11 years before entering into public education where she have served in many different positions since 1994 including a special education instructor, language arts, technology and media teacher, and associate principal among others.

Dawn started Monday on a part-time basis and will go full time July 1.  She is getting a running start on the 2012-13 school year, getting to know the families and your needs and concerns, as well as getting to know the staff and building a successful team for the next school year.  Please introduce yourself and your children to Dawn and share your thoughts.  Over the next few months, we will be hosting events to introduce Dawn to the school and neighborhood community, too.  We hope you can join us.

We have much to be thankful for including the recent “Governor’s Award” from the Colorado Department of Education for excellence in achievement and we are certain that with Dawn’s leadership that we will continue to grow in excellence.

Please join me in welcoming Dawn Nelson as the new principal of Pikes Peak Prep.

Sincerely,
Walter R. Glover
Board President

The Month of April Brings Us Confidence

April School Wide Character Development Trait of the Month
Our Character trait word for the month of April is CONFIDENCE.
This month we will be working on understanding the concept of confidence as well as discussing why it is important, and how it could impact our social and academic success. We will be commending responsible behaviors and talking about ways we can show confidence in ourselves, in our relationships with classmates, teachers, friends and family, in our education and overall character. We will also highlight ways showing confidence creates opportunities for triumph and growth.
We will continue the character trait tickets. When students are seen displaying confident actions they will be rewarded with tickets. These tickets allow students the opportunity to be nominated for Eagle of the week and month. Their names will be announced in the morning on Fridays; and for our Eagles of the month, students are treated to lunch with the principal!
